Hello!
I am Lauri

A conceptual designer aiming to create both meaning and focus behind business concepts and communicating them effectively to the customers. I have versatile skills in both design and marketing and utilize both in my workflow. I am excited to connect my two fields of expertise to create something cool and meaningful. I mean, isn’t it cool to see an idea come together seamlessly both conceptually and visually? That’s what I strive towards!

As a person, some people have gone as far as to call me easygoing and I like to keep things a bit more informal. On my free time I enjoy singing and dancing, so if there is some karaoke to be had, I’m in. However, I also like to get things done and want to be constantly learning new things both in my work and other aspects of my life.

Background

I have a Master’s degree in Marketing from Aalto University school of Business, which is where my fascination of marketing has sprouted from. To be honest, I chose marketing purely because I felt that it was the most creative of the options out there for me. However, It opened many doors for me in terms of my second passion, art and design.

I have always been drawing different things even with limited tools, such as plain pencil and paper. This urge lead me to giving digital art a try and kickstarted my shift towards design. I started  with designing some logos and icons, but as new opportunities presented themselves, started to expand my design repertoire.

Design

I started my design work as the Art Director of the Helsinki Academic Male Choir (KYL) where I worked on many projects such as concerts, promotional events and campaigns. Normal design tasks for these included creating promotional material of both digital and print media. The largest of the projects with KYL was the choir’s 70th anniversary year campaign that included creating a visual style used for the whole year of celebration to create a coherent continuum over the different events.

This opened many opportunities for me and I have since done several freelance projects as a graphic designer. To highlight a couple of the most important ones, I have done a whole brand redesign and website for Symphony Orchestra Vivo, and designed a logo, visual identity and a application mockup for Aallto Wellness Oy. On top of these I have done a few other work and case study projects, allowing me to delve deeper into logo design, print media and creating visual identities for several business ideas and concepts.

Marketing

At Aalto University I was mainly focusing on courses that allowed me to participate in business cases, as that was where I felt like I could become familiar with as many real business concepts and applications as possible, and would be able to dynamically practice my skill set in many different contexts. Through this practice I have learned to create business concepts, or meanings to exist, for companies and allows me to be effective in communicating that value to the customer.

On top of my studies in marketing, I have functioned as the Social Media and Marketing manager at the Helsinki Academic Male Choir, where I was responsible for the choir’s communication and tone of voice when communicating with the audience through digital means. More recently, I also functioned as a Marketing Coordinator at Vaisala, which has allowed me to get an understanding of a wide range of marketing functions and processes, such as marketing campaign creation, creation of promotional material and digital events among other things.
